In the March 15, 1997 Tacoma News Tribune, page A12, is a quote by Rep. Karen Schmidt directed at Sen. Pam Roach. The quote: "The bill was passed by the moderates in both caucuses. This is a pure power grab by someone who believes her authority is higher than anyone else's. She wants to play to the people who are afraid of the black helicopters. She doesn't want to have a hearing. She wants a media circus..... for the 2 percent who voted for her for governor".
